TREVOR HUGHES | Managing Director

Trevor Hughes is the founder of Lighthouse Strategic Leadership, a firm specializing in coaching and strategic consulting support to leaders and leadership teams.

Trevor’s focus includes the development of strategic capability for teams and individuals, the facilitation of the most important business conversations, support for the identification of strategic options, the achievement of effective decision making, working with leadership for the successful implementation of strategic choices and change management. Trevor works with industry leading companies, coaching their leadership teams and individuals to reach new levels of high performance.

Trevor has focused on strategy development and implementation for clients in South Africa and across Africa. Trevor has worked with industry leaders in the telecommunications, mining and beverages industries, across their operations in West, East and Southern Africa.

Trevor was the managing director Gemini Consulting in South Africa and occupied general management positions at SABMiller in South Africa. Trevor lectures and coaches at the GIBS business school in Johannesburg.

Trevor has a BSc and MSc in Civil engineering from the University of the Witwatersrand. He is a MBA graduate of Wits Business School and has an MPhil in Business Coaching from the University of Stellenbosch Business School.

ANTHONY DOYLE | Consumer Goods

Anthony holds a B Com Honours in business economics and marketing. He has over 25 years experience in sales, marketing, and held various business leadership positions in the FMCG industry in South Africa. He kicked off his work life as a marketing trainee with AC Nielsen and later managed client relationships with some of SA’s leading blue chip FMCG companies.

He has a passion for building brands and driving sales performance which was shown at Nestle SA where he drove double sales digit growth for Nestlé’s coffee category in the mid-90s.

As Marketing Director at Kodak South Africa in the late the 90’s he was instrumental in the brand’s successful market re-entry. Some innovative go-to-market strategies backed by a high performing Kodak sales and brand team saw Kodak achieve market leadership in SA by the early 2000’s. Anthony was appointed Managing Director of Kodak in 2003 and when confronted by the industry transition in the late 2000’s managed the business restructure and eventual exit of the brand in 2012.

Anthony is now a Lead Consultant with Lighthouse Strategic Leadership and Business Head for their Consumer Division. He has delivered multiple consulting projects and sales force effectiveness programs in Africa and South Africa for leading telecoms, liquor and food companies.

MARIA PHILLIPS | Strategic Marketing

After graduating from the University of the Witwatersrand with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, Maria started at Cadbury in 1982 as a graduate trainee and was promoted to various roles in brand and marketing management. After 13 years of developing deep marketing skills at Cadbury, Maria joined the South African office of Gemini Consulting as a senior consultant, working across industries including manufacturing, retail and beverages.

In 1997, Maria joined SAB Ltd, achieving the position of National Trade Marketing Manager, accountable for developing the go to market channel and sales strategies, as well as facilitating the implementation of these strategies across South Africa.

In 2002, Maria joined National Brands as the Demand Director and later moved into the role of Category Director for the coffee category, accountable for the well known brands such as Ellis Brown, Frisco and Koffiehuis.

In 2006, Maria joined Mind Share, a leading  global media agency network, as the CEO of the South African office. After more than 8 successful years leading Mind Share, Maria left to pursue her consulting interests with Lighthouse Strategic Leadership as the head of strategic marketing.

PATRICK HUGHES | Business Analyst

Patrick is a Business Analyst at Lighthouse Strategic Leadership, conducting market research and analysis of clients and their industries. He has a B Com Honours in Business Management: Strategy and Innovation from Stellenbosch University. Patrick’s B Com Honours research was titled Strategic Agility in the Context of the Mining Industry.
