With the thrust of the COVID-19 pandemic, businesses have rushed to adapt to a new way of working – through the internet. This new reality has not been kind to the labour driven South African economy. However, for industries such as IT services, marketing and management consulting (to name a few), the new climate has forced companies to adapt to a virtual climate.

The Lighthouse team has learnt that the virtual meeting platforms can be used successfully for both meetings and workshops. We have been fortunate to change to this new way of working without too much difficulty. Meetings, interviews and workshops have now moved into the comfort of our homes.

Never has our reliance on technology been so elevated and where an interruption to the internet connectivity or a laptop crash, could result in a lost day of work. While there are hiccups – we can be thankful that we can still work productively and collaboratively despite being kilometres apart.

This does raise the question about how the world will look after this pandemic? No doubt that everything has changed, but for how long? Will companies revert to the old ways of work? Or will this sudden push into the digital world be an irreversible and pivotal moment in the evolution of our connectivity?
