Lighthouse has been involved in a long-term study of identifying alternative routes to market for chronic medicines in Uganda. This fascinating project involves geo-mapping of different levels of facilities, infrastructure throughout the country, considerations of the patient universe and work quality services, and the development of investment cases to bring commercial realities to decision-making.

The team has months in Kampala, experiencing life in the city, and have been exposed to the resourcefulness of Ugandans as they navigate congested streets.

The Boda Boda, the basic 150cc motorbike, has become an essential part of the transportation and distribution infrastructure. The drivers navigate busy streets, taking narrow gaps, carrying anything from couples on dates, businessmen or even construction equipment. The Boda Boda was popularised two decades ago and created an accessible means of transport.

Although these drivers have filled the gap for convenient and cheap transport, countries such as Nigeria, consider them to be hazardous and responsible for a disproportionate number of road accidents and deaths. In fact, the Government in Lagos, Nigeria, have banned the boda boda (called okadas in Nigeria) in certain areas of the city and leaving customers without transport.
